Bangkok Central Area
Not only is there a fabulous selection of hotels in Central Bangkok, this area is a dream for shopping.

Lets start with the Pratunam Street markets, a renowned market place for garments and textiles, no matter what your size, fashion or budget, there is something for everyone. Next is MBK Shopping Centre, 8 floors of wall to wall shops ranging from clothes, mobile phones, furniture, souveniers and a sensational food court on the 5th floor. Make sure you purchase coupons first though as cash is not accepted at the individual food stands. The World Trade Centre is yet another shopping icon, here you have the Zen Department Store which has all fixed prices and high quality goods. In addition, there is an extensive range of individual specialty shops ranging from tailors, gems, artwork and restaurants.

For computer buffs you have Panthip Plaza. Here you can buy just about any hardware or software at a reasonable price.

Unfortunately, the traffic in Central Bangkok is a nightmare so make sure you allow plenty of time.

This is certainly one of my personal favourites because it is close to serious shopping opportunities! MBK Shopping, Pratunam Street Markets, World Trade Centre and Panthip Plaza. The hotel also has spaciously well appointed rooms and Grappino, one of the best Italian restaurants I have ever dined at. If you are seeking some fun in the evening then Henry J Bean is a must, an all American style venue, good food, cold beers and great music.

Located in the heart of Bangkok city this excellent property has fabulous rooms and unmatched facilities. It is also located at the Erawan Shrine, famous for local Thais as well as overseas visitors who flock here daily to pay their respects. The hotel has a unique atrium which provides an interesting environment of tropical plants and trees and is a perfect spot to enjoy a traditional afternoon tea. If it is excitement and fun matched with superb Italian food then Spasso’s is a must.

Recommended Attractions
Grand Palace/Wat Phra Kaew
Without doubt, the Grand Palace is the best of Bangkok's many tourist attractions. The Grand Palace is a collection of fantastically ornate temples and other buildings constructed in a variety of Thai styles. Gold leaf, mirrored tiles and Buddha images are in abundance. The centrepiece is the Emerald Buddha (Phra Kaew) which is of immense spiritual importance to Thailand.

However, the Grand Palace also has many other interesting things to look at. Check out the murals on the walls, and the Thai worshippers behind Wat Phra Kaew, this is one place that should not be missed. Once entering the temple, the visitor will feel as if they are in a real "city of angels".

Erawan Shrine
Head for Erawan Shrine for something you wouldn't see at home. This is a huge shrine which is always packed with worshippers. It's surrounded by vendors selling all the paraphenalia essential for spirit worship, such as joss sticks, flower garlands, miniature wooden elephants, and so on. The Erawan Shrine is located between a number of huge shopping centres on the south-east corner of Rama I and Ratchadamri Roads, definatly worth a visit.
Chatuchak Weekend Market
This market is one of the world's largest "flea markets". There are over 8,600 stalls and vendors spread across 28 acres, selling to over 200,000 people on Saturday and Sunday. There is such a variety of items available at the market, it is really impossible to make a list. Whether you actually need to buy something or not, don't miss spending an hour or two here just to absorb a unique part of Thailand and Southeast Asia.

The market has its own stop on the Sky Train, Mo Chit and is open from 7AM to 6PM every Saturday and Sunday.
