North Eastern Thailand
Or better known as "Issan", especially for its "real" Thai hospitality and culture. The culture in Issan is very strong and if you are seeking old world Thai hospitality then this area is a must. Some of the main provinces include Udon Thani, Roet, Kon Kaen and Nong Kai. The history of this area includes an R & R base for the soldiers during the Vietnam war and is also the base of Voice of America (VOA) a radio station which is still in operation today. This area is where Thailands famous Tuk Tuk’s are manufactured. The climate is also very different to that of Thailand’s capital, Bangkok, offering cooler temperatures of around 14 degrees celcius from November to March but quite hot from April to October. This area is full of history, culture and landmarks including some of Thailand’s most famous and unspoilt national parks. Nong Kai is actually the crossing point into Laos by the "Friendship Bridge". Make sure you are carrying USD Dollars for your visa which is obtained prior to crossing into laos.
A simple smile will open doors and offer you hospitality and friendship that you will not find anywhere else in the world.
